Bowling Green Baptist Church Director of Music--Job Description Job Title: Director of Music Reports to: Senior Pastor Position Status: Part Time (15 hrs minimum per week) Position Description: The Director of Music is responsible for music selection, direction, and choir leadership on a weekly basis during the Blended Worship Service. This position will set the stage for a loving, caring, and nurturing environment for worship. The Director will serve the church, under the direction of the Senior Pastor and through coordination with the Music Committee. The position will serve as a leader and spiritual role model for the church and choir. Ensure that a music program is well rehearsed and prepared for each service. Responsibilities: • Lead worship music for Blended Worship Service • Assist in creative planning of the worship service and music ministries. Select hymns, songs, choruses, anthems, special holiday music as needed. • Lead congregational singing • Plan and lead rehearsals for the adult Choir and other choirs as needed. • Work with the Children’s/Youth leadership to develop a Children’s Music Ministry as a regular part of the Children’s/Youth program. Seasonal programs directed at Children/Youth a priority. • Procure guest performers as needed • Work with Music Chairs to submit annual budget. Periodically review budget line items for execution. • Meet with the Pastor and/or Music Committee Chairs for review of goals, communication, and objective completion. Maintain an ongoing mentor relationship with both parties. • Directly supervise the Audio- Visual Team in worship format, music selection, sound production, and event planning. • Coordinate, execute and document all repairs, maintenance, and modifications of all music equipment to include the piano, organ, handbells, and all AV equipment. • Inventory and track all music and audio-visual equipment. • Locate, schedule, and oversee substitute pianist/organist as needed for rehearsals and practices. • Evaluate the substitution of recorded music versus “live” music, when needed for programs or events • Maintain, store, and order music materials (to include online sources), as needed. • Coordinate with third parties when the facilities are being used for other events, such as weddings and funerals • Serve as a member of Church Council to provide status updates on the music program. • Coordinate with other ministries as needed on any music requirement or requests Qualifications and Musical Competency: 1. Authentic relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and the ability to shepherd volunteer musicians in the Christian Life 2. Love and respect for people. 3. Skilled on piano a must. Other musical instruments a plus. 4. Hold Bachelor’s degree in music, preferred, and/or 2 years’ experience in leading music. 5. Ability to organize, coordinate and motivate musicians and music team members 6. Sense of humor and positive attitude and strong team player and be committed to the Church’s vision, leadership, and people. 7. Ability to work in a blended service format, to include a in wide range of styles. 8. Experience with audio visual technology and equipment.
