We are seeking someone who longs to create and collaborate to cultivate spaces in our church where people can encounter God, be formed in the likeness of Christ, and become more attentive to the Holy Spirit through worship in all its forms, especially through the creative arts. RESPONSIBILITIES Music Team Leadership - Cultivate and expand the church’s liturgy and worship styles to reflect the diverse nature of the kingdom of God in our church. - Provide oversight and leadership to the worship arts aspects of Sunday gatherings, ensuring corporate worship services are biblically and contextually faithful, and continuing to move Christ City forward in our calling to be a multi-racial, diverse community of faith. - Recruit, develop, train, schedule, and support volunteer worship leaders and musicians, including via regular worship leader meetings and regular music team meetings. - Collaborate with Production Team Leads, among others, to ensure production quality of Sunday gatherings. - Oversee the production team and budget. Creative Team Leadership - Oversee the writing and incorporation of liturgical elements such as weekly confessions, professions, and prayers. - Recruit, manage, and coordinate volunteers to participate in creative worship elements, including via regular creative team meetings. - Collaborate with staff and creatives in the church to identify, facilitate, and implement creative, non-musical forms of worship for Sunday gatherings and special services (e.g. responsive readings, calls to worship, artistic responses, stage and set design). - Disciple artists and those with creative inclinations in our community, including those in Kids City and Teen City, to see and live into the intersection of art and faith. - Develop avenues of outreach to the creative community in DC, making connections with DC’s artists and writers and finding ways to support them. - Partner with arts nonprofits to serve our neighborhood. - Manage the worship and creative team budgets. Discipleship - Provide pastoral support and care for the members of the music and creative teams, especially the volunteer worship leaders and creative team leaders. Qualifications - Some formal vocal and/or instrumental training preferred but not required. - At least three years of full-time or five years of part-time ministry experience as a worship leader. - Familiar with and proficient in leading in a variety of musical genres, worship traditions, and styles. - Able to lead vocally and/or from keys, guitar and/or other instruments. - Able to teach and lead musical and vocal parts to a praise team and/or choir. - Proficient both in reading music and charts, and playing by ear is preferred. - Able to serve in a multicultural setting. - Willing to affirm or submit to Christ City Church’s Theological Statement, Leadership Council Charter, and Statement of Inclusion. This is a full-time salaried position: 40 hours per week, reporting to the Pastor of Leadership & Spiritual Formation. Funded for two years by CCC’s Worship Arts Fellowship, with the possibility for an extension. Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits included, along with generous paid personal leave.
