Survey Shows Baptists Are Politically More Historic than Nationalist
Research illustrates belief in separation of church and state
Lifeway Research released results April 16, 2024 from a new survey that included more than 1,000 self-identified Southern Baptists churchgoers and leaders, excluding senior pastors. Their research indicated that of those surveyed, Southern Baptists resonate more with the historic principles of religious liberty than with the beliefs of Christian nationalists.
Other issues included in the survey address respondents’ views on the appropriateness of Christian influence and favor shown toward certain religions in U.S. government—issues on which participants were considerably more divided.
