Position: Associate Pastor Reports To: Senior Pastor The Associate Pastor is one who is gifted and is called to church ministry, loves people, and has a passion for evangelism and outreach both personally and at the ministry level within a multi-generational congregation setting. The Associate Pastor has a passion for the Word of God and a desire to proclaim the Word of God, living out the Great Commission by sharing the gospel boldly from the pulpit by being in the community and through one-on-one relationships. The purpose of the Associate Pastor is to provide ministry to the congregation and guests through visitation and pastoral care. This includes but is not limited to meeting the following expectations: 1) Support the Senior Pastor in the overall vision casting and leadership of the church’s teaching 2) Communication skills to effectively preach several times a year and to be prepared to be the emergency backup speaker in case of a last-minute need. Always have an “emergency sermon” ready 3) Work with the church staff to ensure weekend services are planned and executed 4) Assist the Senior Pastor as the contact for visitors by coordinating follow-up contact with new guests and members who have not attended church for a couple of weeks 5) Assist in the spiritual growth and progress of all members 6) Responsible for new member orientation classes 7) Visit and minister to the homebound, including members in the hospital, care facilities, or at home 8) Assist the Senior Pastor in conducting funerals and weddings 9) Provide confidential pastoral counseling 10) Provide guidance and oversight for small group teachers and leaders; assist small group teachers and leaders with training, curriculum/study selection 11) Teach small group or Sunday School classes as needed 12) Attend staff weekly meetings and monthly church council 13) May serve on other committees, ad hoc teams, or ex officio Qualifications: 1) Minimum of five (5) years of pastoral experience 2) Minimum of a four-year college degree preferred, but can be negotiated based on years of experience 3) Must exhibit evidence of Christian character and servant leadership as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 peter 5:1-4 in the work environment as well as in the home/family setting 4) Evidence of a strong work ethic and personal integrity 5) Must agree with Shalom’s missions, beliefs, and core values as outlined at www.shalombaptist.net
