The Director of Communications and Media (DCM) is an experienced and entrepreneurial leader in

the strategy and implementation of BWA Communications and Media. This position is instrumental in

creating impactful communications within the BWA family and the wider world to help fulfill the BWA

mission of “networking the Baptist family to impact the world for Christ.”

The DCM works closely with the BWA General Secretary and CEO to develop and guide the BWA

communications and media strategy and its implementation across all ministry areas and platforms.

This position serves as a strategic storyteller, brand steward, and digital innovator ensuring the BWA’s

message is communicated clearly, creatively, and compellingly across diverse audiences and cultures.

As a member of the General Secretary leadership team, the DCM works collaboratively with other

BWA Directors to shape the global narrative of the BWA. The DCM amplifies stories of faithful witness

that strengthens Baptist life, thought, belief, unity, and action and builds and deploys robust

multilingual and segmented communications, marketing, and relationship development to increase

mobilized Baptist engagement, BWA advancement, and public square presence.

The DCM works alongside a small team of BWA communications contractors. BWA is a complex and

global organization with a growing budget, team, and impact that requires a demanding and unique

mixture of high levels of simultaneous strategic development, relational engagement, and practical

implementation.

Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

• Develop and implement an integrated global communications, media, and marketing strategy,

team, and budget that is mission-driven, data-informed, audience-focused, and engagementmobilizing.

• Collaborate with the General Secretary, the BWA team, and partners to align and implement

communications priorities with the BWA’s missional focus and strategic plan.

• Cultivate a network of regional and national Baptist Global Communications Cohort and

beyond to extend the BWA’s storytelling reach.

2. Storytelling, Brand, and Public Engagement

• Tell the story of what the Lord is doing through the BWA and its member and ministry partners

in a way that inspires participation and deepens engagement.

• Oversee and implement comprehensive communications plans along with the creation of

communications processes, schedules, and assets.

• Effectively grow and manage BWA communication assets and content creation for print and

digital platforms, including video storytelling, weekly and monthly emails, reports, newsletters,

publications, BWA magazine, photography, and other determined platforms as well as relevant

content libraries and databases.

• Develop and deploy the weekly One in Prayer email.

• Lead the global expression of the BWA brand ensuring consistency, visual identity, tone, and

theological integrity.

• Manage BWA press relations, media engagement, and crisis communications with Christian,

multi-faith, and public media outlets and consistently grow relationships, opportunities, and

content.

• Support the BWA General Secretary as the chief spokesperson for the BWA with the DCM

serving as a key facilitator and the secondary spokesperson of the BWA.

3. Digital Strategy, Media Innovation, and Engagement

• Drive a digital-first communications approach leveraging analytics, search engine optimization,

and social engagement to expand reach and impact.

• Grow and manage the BWA’s online ecosystem, including websites, social media channels, and

email campaigns, ensuring cutting-edge design, usability, and performance.

• Utilize emerging media platforms (such as AI-assisted translation, storytelling, livestreaming,

etc.) to connect the global Baptist community.

• Build innovative campaigns and processes that transform BWA Member Partners, churches,

and individuals into engaged participants.

• Monitor trends and innovation in global communications to ensure the BWA remains a creative

and adaptive leader.

4. Marketing and Fundraising Communications

• Partner with the General Secretary to design and implement integrated marketing,

advancement, and donor communication campaigns that inspire generosity and partnership

and are segmented according to individual preference.

• Lead creative production for print and digital fundraising content, including giving campaigns,

impact videos, donor appeals, online appeals, and annual reports.

• Strengthen the BWA’s reputation as a trusted, impactful, and visionary organization through

measurable brand awareness initiatives.

5. Team Leadership and Global Communication Capacity Building

• Steward and manage the communications budget with excellence, accountability, and

innovation.

• Supervise and develop a high-performing global communications team (staff, contractors, and

volunteers).

• Build and lead a network of media partners, creative agencies, and freelance contributors.

• Train and equip the BWA team in areas of communication and media engagement and develop

training, toolkits, and coaching that can help BWA leaders, Regional Fellowships, Member

Partners, and churches increase their communications and reach.

• Serve as the liaison to assigned BWA committees and commissions.

• Foster a culture of collaboration, prayer, broader engagement, and excellence.

6. Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in and at times lead weekly team devotions.

• Attend, participate, and at times lead other BWA meetings.

• Support and implement all BWA guidelines, systems, policies, and processes.

• Other duties as assigned.

Ministry Specifications

1. Full-time position.

2. Reports to the BWA General Secretary and CEO.

3. Work location for this position is the BWA office in Falls Church, Virginia, USA.

4. Supervise any assigned team members, contractors, or volunteers in accordance with relevant

BWA guidelines and in a spirit of mentorship and Christ-centered love and service.

5. Work collaboratively and seek to embody the Fruit of the Spirit.

6. Submit strategy, program of work, budget, and reports consistent with BWA guidelines and

processes.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Spiritual and Theological

• Live as a mature follower of Jesus Christ with a deep commitment to the mission of the Church

and personal spiritual growth.

• Active participation in a local Baptist church.

• Strong understanding of Baptist history, heritage, and theology with a heart for Christian

witness, global mission, and unity.

2. Professional

• 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in communications, media, marketing, or public

relations with experience in international, nonprofit, mission, or faith-based settings a plus.

• Proven record of developing and implementing global communications strategies that deliver

measurable outcomes.

• Strong skills in print and digital strategy and practical implementation of storytelling, print

communication, video production, press relations, and digital engagement.

• Demonstrated success in brand management, marketing communications, and fundraising

storytelling.

• Experience with cross-cultural communications and international engagement.

• Proficiency with relevant communications tools (content management systems, analytics,

Constant Contact, Adobe Creative suite, etc.).

• Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, the official BWA language.

Proficiency in additional languages a plus.

• Advanced degree in communications, journalism, marketing, media, or related field with

additional theological training a plus.
