To serve as the Family Minister of Novum Baptist Church under the Supervision and guidance of the Pastor and in coordination with the Family Committee (s) for Children and Youth. The position reports to the Pastor. PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be a mature and sincere follower of Jesus Christ with a heart for discipleship and evangelism of children and youth. This position is a calling in which service to the Lord requires a 24/7 mindset. The Family Minister must adhere to the Novum Baptist Church Constitution and Bylaws (available upon request), the Baptist faith tradition, and become a member of Novum Baptist Church. The candidate must submit to and pass a criminal background check. The candidate must also have a good record of driving and insurability. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma; Post-Secondary Education/Bible College/Seminary a plus. Training and experience to meet the job requirements. HIRING TERMS, SALARY AND BENEFITS: This is a commissioned ministerial position of the church under the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) definition of Clergy. Salary/Housing Allowance and benefits are negotiable depending on experience and qualifications. This position shall be conditional for the first year. Quarterly evaluations shall be conducted to monitor progress in meeting ministerial duties. Upon one year anniversary, the Personnel Committee will evaluate performance over the course of the probationary period and remove conditional status if so determined. The Family Minister will be expected to be present at all worship services, business & council meetings, and church-wide events, unless otherwise authorized to be absent. Outside employment must be preauthorized by the Personnel Committee and the Supervisor. NOVUM PERSONNEL COMMITTEE Page 2 of 3 CHURCH COVENANT & JOB SESCRIPTION: Position of Family Minister JOB DESCRIPTION (Continued) RESPONSIBLE TO DISCIPLE CHILDREN AND YOUTH - Primary focus is to grow our young people (children, teens and young adults) in Christ, to teach our young people to reach the world for Jesus, to develop their potential as active church members, and to intentionally equip their parents with biblical and spiritual resources to disciple their children. - Demonstrated ability and skill working with Family Committee and volunteer teams. - Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategy to grow our family program both spiritually and numerically. - Develop a Student Leadership Team who will be equipped to make disciples of their peers and become active church members and leaders. - Carry on and improve existing Family programs, missions and ministries, and be willing and able to pioneer new concepts and inspire others with new initiatives. - Ensure youth and children have specific responsibilities in serving alongside adults in missions and other outward-focused ministries in the community. - Lead children and youth into regular participation in church ministries, including Sunday morning worship, encouraging them to use their gifts in serving others. - Help children and youth understand God’s plan for them as it applies to pressing social issues to include drug use, gender identity, cyber bullying, promiscuity, divorce, etc. RESPONSIBLE TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY - Effectively communicate with children, youth, parents, the church at large, church leadership, the community, and other churches including: in-person, telephone, e-mail, social media, and written communications of all kinds. - Possess excellent public speaking skills and demonstrated ability to proclaim the Gospel. - Know the scriptures thoroughly and be able to teach God’s principles effectively to children and youth. - Connect relationally with parents, children, and youth. - Demonstrate a measure of humility which receives correction and asks for help when needed. - Work closely with ministry staff, Deacons, key leaders, and church committees to see that common objectives are accomplished. - Model a missional lifestyle in the community by seeking out relationships with those who do not know Christ and leading children and youth to do the same. - Know the names of all youth, children and their parents. - Follow up, in a timely manner, with new or visiting families with children to make them feel welcome and inform them about our family ministry. - Participate in community/school events involving church youth and children on occasion as opportunities arise. - Be accessible to parents to discuss their children, provide prayer and counsel when needed, and refer to Pastor when needed. NOVUM PERSONNEL COMMITTEE Page 3 of 3 CHURCH COVENANT & JOB SESCRIPTION: Position of Family Minister JOB DESCRIPTION (Continued) RESPONSIBLE TO WORK WITH OTHERS TO PLAN, MANAGE AND EXECUTE PROGRAM - Plan, budget, steward the budget, and implement programs and evaluate them when completed. - Responsible for the planning and organizing major events such as weeklong VBS, afternoon Fall Harvest Festival, and evening Christmas Nativity Drive Through. Encouraged to develop other events to attract existing and new families to share the Gospel and promote discipleship and fellowship. - Consider input from the Family Committee as well as the ideas of others in the church and jointly develop church vision to (a) prioritize suggestions, (b) combine activities across ages when appropriate, (c) integrate these activities into the life and functions of the church, (d) plug into existing activities in the community where appropriate, and (d) evaluate activities when completed for continuous improvement. - Coordinate discipleship programming across all age groups from nursery through high school. - Develop inter-generational activities which will encourage congregation to engage in small group activities with youth and children. This would entail identifying and tapping into talents and spiritual gifts that already exist in our church family.
