Full Time Pastor First Baptist Church (Big Stone Gap, Virginia) First Baptist Church of Big Stone Gap Virginia, is currently seeking our next Pastor for a full-time ministry position in our small rural church that seeks to grow. We are looking for an energetic, spirit-filled, spirit-led pastor with a good background in scripture and an ability to communicate knowledge and insight with an eye to edifying the church. We seek a leader with a vision, a focus on evangelism and church growth, and an interest in outreach and community involvement. Job Description The Pastor will provide leadership to carry out the church’s evolving mission and vision, being strategically minded and intentional with recruiting and developing new members, volunteers, and teams within the scope of the church ministry to accomplish the outcomes desired. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Overseeing and expanding all ministries within the church • Preparation and delivery of sermons • Leading in observances • Providing administrative leadership for all operations of the church • Engaging with church leaders in planning, conducting, and evaluating the ministries of the church • Working with deacons, church officers, committees, and volunteers as they perform their assigned responsibilities • Cultivating an atmosphere of teamwork with everyone involved in the ministry of the church • Leading an effective program of ministry for persons in both the church and community • Organizing outreach events to recruit new attendees and church members • Following up with first-time visitors • Visiting church members when appropriate or requested • Providing a hospital and shut-in visitation ministry • Ministering to the bereaved and dying • Counseling ministry (personal and religious problems, pre-marital, post-marital) • Conducting special services (baptisms, weddings, funerals) • Serving as moderator of church business meetings • Cooperate with associational, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern. Keep the church informed of developments. Qualifications & Skills The Pastor is to be a born-again believer, acknowledging Jesus Christ as both Lord and Savior, and having an ongoing personal relationship with Him. He should maintain a consistent prayer life and have consistent daily quiet time. Furthermore, he should have a clear testimony of God’s calling on his life to serve in ministry. The Pastor will meet the qualifications outlined in 1Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1Peter 5:1-4, and support the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. The Pastor shall possess the skills necessary to perform his duties, including the relational interpersonal skills for working with adults and children of all ages within the congregation. They must be gifted in communication, be self-motivated, and have a teachable spirit to grow as a person and as a leader. The Pastor must be able demonstrate their passion for ministry through various qualifications: • The candidate must have a self-awareness of having received a call for ministry • A Bachelor’s degree in Theology or a related field or Seminary training from an accredited seminary is preferred, but applicable experience will also be considered • Some ministry experience of at least 2 years preferred • Candidate must be ordained or be a candidate for ordination • CPR certification and Ministry Safe training preferred, or a willingness to obtain • Leading by example with a disciplined Christian life exhibited by an exemplary attitude, a vibrant personal life, and a love for Christ and creation • Must possess a pattern of spiritual growth that is evidenced by a life of prayer, personal obedience to the Word of God, and the proven ability to discern the Lord’s will and guidance in decision making Benefits & Schedule The Pastor will be a full-time, exempt salaried employee. Total compensation package will range from $48,000-$60,000 annually, depending on experience and education. In addition to salary and other benefits, the compensation package would include family friendly housing, as well as two weeks of paid time off per year. This is a full-time role, including set responsibilities on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, Wednesday evenings, and some holidays. It is understood that weekends, holidays, and nights are required of this position. Regular office hours should be set and posted. In most cases, the Pastor may set his own schedule, as long as he is accomplishing his ministry objectives.
