Position Summary & Principal Functions:
Bon Air Baptist Weekday School is seeking a caring, organized, and Christ-centered Lead Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate, Bible-based learning environment for young children. The Lead Teacher plans and implements curriculum aligned with program goals, oversees daily classroom operations, and supports the academic, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth of each child.
This role includes maintaining consistent classroom routines, ensuring student safety and well-being, modeling Christian values, and building positive relationships with students, families, and staff while collaborating with Assistant Teachers and school leadership.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Classroom & Instructional Leadership
• Create, plan, and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with program goals
• Prepare classroom materials, projects, and supplies in advance of instructional time
• Write and distribute a weekly classroom newsletter to families
• Maintain daily classroom schedules and routines
• Integrate Christian values and age appropriate biblical principles into daily activities
• Maintain positive classroom management and actively engage with children throughout the day
Student Care & Safety:
• Take daily attendance and submit monthly attendance reports to the Director
• Always Maintain open visibility with other staff; never be alone with a child in a closed space and follow all diapering, toileting, and bathroom supervision procedures
• Report and document all injuries, incidents, or safety concerns immediately to the Director
• Serve as a mandated reporter under Virginia law
Parent & Family Communication
• Maintain clear, respectful, and professional communication with families
• Participating in parent conferences as assigned
• Follow school procedures regarding communication of concerns or developmental issues
• Collaborate closely with the Assistant Teacher to divide classroom responsibilities and support Assistant Teacher(s) in daily classroom functions
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and school events as required
Administrative & Professional Responsibilities:
• Complete 10 hours of required annual training and professional development
• Maintain current certifications as required (CPR, First Aid, MAT if applicable)
• Submit required documentation, including background checks and health reports
• Adhere to all policies in the Teacher Handbook, Parent Handbook, and employment agreements and confidentiality agreement
• Model Christian values in conduct, speech, and interactions
Compensation & Employment Terms:
• Paid rate and calculations are outlined in the General Contract for the 2026–2027 school year and include built in holidays, scheduled school closures and trainings
• Receive 20 equal bi monthly paychecks (September–June)
• Additional compensation or deductions may apply for training, substituting, or additional leave and leave days, training bonuses, and payroll details are governed by the Teacher Handbook
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child Development, or a related field preferred
• Experience working with young children in early childhood or preschool setting
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff and families
• Commitment to Christian values and ethical conduct
• Completion of all required background checks and employment documentation
