Position Description (Full time)
Compensation: $42,000 – $55,000 based on education and experience
General Description for the Pastor of Family Ministry:
The P/DFM will develop a comprehensive ministry working to promote the discipleship and enrichment of families and students in the church and the community. The P/DFM is to plan, conduct, and coordinate family-focused ministries, including worship, training, and activities for children, middle, and high school-age youth. The P/DFM is also responsible for fostering the spiritual growth of families, encouraging them to participate in all aspects of Church life. The P/DFM is to be a counselor and advisor in their lives, promoting personal prayer and devotions, as well as teaching and conducting evangelical outreach activities.
Requirements
The P/DFM will be a mature Christian, with the following attributes and skills:
> Possess a genuine compassion for families of all types, evidenced by faithful engagement in family ministries
> Able to teach and exemplify key Christian doctrines, especially as found in the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message
> Be a committed member of First Baptist Church – Woodstock
> Actively participate in word and example in seeking to reach persons with the Gospel
> Has experience leading a Young Adult, Children’s, and/or Student Ministry
> Displays exceptional people skills (e.g., listening, communicating, developing trust and rapport)
> Able to work in a team environment utilizing the development of goals and objectives
> Able to evaluate ministries and make recommendations for improvement
> Work at recruiting, training, enabling, affirming, and supporting volunteers
> Communicate effectively with written and spoken words
> Competent in computer and online skills (e.g., Microsoft 365, presentation media, the Internet, and social media)
> Develop and administer annual proposed budgets for the areas of responsibility to the Stewardship Committee
Expectations for Family Ministry:
> Be available “on call” for crisis ministry as needed
> Visit with students and families to build relationships and build the ministry
> Enlist help and leadership from adults in the congregation
> Work with the Pastor and volunteers to plan, prepare, and direct worship services
> Maintain a constant program of self-improvement by keeping informed of current ministry methods, promotional ideas, and administrative techniques
> Cooperation with local, regional, and state-wide Christian student activities, mission, and/or discipleship camps is to be encouraged
> Serve and attend meetings as written in the By-Laws, policies of the church, and as requested by the Pastor or leadership of the church
> Other duties that may occasionally arise as determined by the Pastor/Personnel Committee
Older Student Ministry (Grades 6-12)
> The P/DFM will develop a ministry to students using
relationship-building activities, Bible study, and mission
events leading participants to a faith in Jesus as Lord and
to a lifestyle of service in God’s Kingdom.
> Plan and implement a Student Ministry attractional
and/or mission event about once a month
> Lead weekly activities (Sunday School, fellowship/game
time, Bible study, etc.)
> Lead (or recruit leaders) for Students’ class during
Vacation Bible School
> Attend or organize a summer camp and a winter mini-
camp. Plan and help with fundraisers and attend the
camps
Younger Student Ministry (Grades K-5)
> The P/DFM will oversee the Children’s Ministry focusing
on age-related worship and monthly activities promoting
fun, a love for the Lord, and helping to develop their
understanding of the Gospel.
> Facilitate an age-appropriate Children’s Church for
Sunday worship services
> Plan and implement an activity about once a month;
more as the program develops
> Serve as a resource for Vacation Bible School planning
and execution
Desired Education and/or Experience
> Completed Bachelor’s Degree in a theological or ministry
related discipline or commensurate experience in a
ministry related field
> Preference will be given to candidates with ministry
related advanced degrees and/or certifications.
Candidates with musical backgrounds (e.g. vocal,
instrumental) and/or technical audio/video skills are a
plus
Supervisor
The immediate supervisor for the P/DFM is the Senior Pastor. The Personnel Chairperson shall serve as the supervisor in the absence of a Pastor. The Personnel Committee is responsible to manage the position (e.g., salary recommendations, issues that may arise where the Senior Pastor needs assistance, etc.). Ultimately, the position answers to the Church.
