BGAV’s Digital Proficiency Workshops are helping church leaders take confident steps into the ever-evolving world of digital ministry. From beginner-level basics to more advanced topics like video production, email marketing, and hybrid worship strategy, the workshops are designed to equip leaders with practical tools and ministry-focused tech skills.

The initiative launched in 2021 as part of BGAV’s commitment to resourcing congregations for effective, missional outreach in a digital-first world. Topics range from managing your Google listing to creating and sharing content digitally.

Recap: What’s Worked?

• Hands-on learning: Workshops include live demos and real-time Q&A, so participants walk away with practical experience—not just theory. Churches share best practices with one another and contribute to a growing list of resources and solutions for digital ministry.
• Customized content: Each church receives a customized snapshot of their digital presence, a demographics report based on drive time, and individualized notes on areas of strength and weakness. Sessions have ranged from Canva design tips to livestream setups tailored for small- and medium-sized churches. New for 2025 is a segment on the ethical and appropriate usage of AI as an effective tool.
• Ministry-first lens: The goal is not tech for tech’s sake—it’s about using digital tools to tell the gospel story, engage members, and reach new audiences.

One participant from a rural church in southwest Virginia noted, “Our livestream went from a cell phone on a music stand to a full setup with sound and slides. It’s made a huge difference.”

Digital spaces are real mission fields—and every church, no matter its size, has the ability to reach people beyond its walls.

“We don’t all need to be TikTok influencers,” said Gary Long, BGAV’s chief marketing officer, “but we do need to be good storytellers and faithful digital neighbors.”
