Ministry Opportunities at BGAV’s Special Needs Retreat

Helpers needed each year to assist retreat teachers

Do you know of an older teen or young college student who might be looking for a ministry opportunity? For more than 20 years, the leaders of the annual Special Needs Retreat at Eagle Eyrie, held the middle of each October, need extra sets of hands for the Bible classes they offer during the three-day event. While there is no compensation given to these helpers, all their expenses are provided while they are on campus.

Typically, each helper is paired up with an adult lead teacher and assistant teacher for each class. The lead teacher often contacts the helper before the event to discern how he/she can be of the most help. For example, if the student helper has particular talents such as being gifted in music, he/she could help with that in the classroom.

There might be helpers who are good at taking care of those students with specific needs in the areas of personal hygiene, or perhaps navigating the terrain at Eagle Eyrie. Some churches simply don’t have enough people available in their congregations who can handle such needs.

Longtime workers at this annual event tell many stories of how volunteers’ lives changed and headed in a new direction after assisting with this event. For more information, call Eagle Eyrie at 434-384-2211 or go online to www.eagleeyrie.org .
